Thompson Inquiries on 2012 DHS Grant Funding Allocations

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano requesting information on how the Department will allocate the $1.12 billion Congress appropriated for twelve State and local grant programs in H.R. 2055, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012. This Act, signed by the President on December 23, 2011, reduced funding for these State and local homeland security grant programs by 43 percent from FY 2011 and also, for the first time, did not set funding levels for individual programs – forcing the Secretary to decide how these scarce funds should be allocated.
